Smart City Strategy for York

Client: City of York Council

Following the launch of the 'Gigabit City' initiative, which is a joint venture led by CityFibre, Talk Talk and Sky, designed to roll-out fibre-to-the-premises services across much of the city of York, SQW was commissioned to help develop a 'smart city' strategy for the city. The aim of the study was to provide a plan that would aid York's businesses, communities, and public and voluntary sector organisations to exploit the digital infrastructure, in order to become one of the best connected cities in Europe.

Our assignment researched international benchmarks of good practice in smart city developments, engaged with local stakeholders to develop a vision and strategic direction for York's smart city programme, and developed an outline business case for a shortlisted set of projects to be progressed.
