West Midlands Science and Innovation Audit

The West Midlands Science and Innovation Audit (SIA) has been published, identifying how science and innovation can help to unlock the true economic potential of the region. SQW provided expert analytical, research and stakeholder engagement support in the development of the SIA, working on behalf of the West Midlands Combined Authority, Birmingham Science City and the three West Midlands Local Enterprise Partnerships who funded the work: Coventry and Warwickshire, Greater Birmingham and Solihull, and the Black Country.

The report provides a detailed picture of the science and innovation strengths and opportunities across the West Midlands. The SIA will be used to help inform investment decisions by local and national stakeholders, providing the evidence base on how to tap into, and make the most of, the region's science and innovation ecosystem.

The SIA report and summary are available to download here:

The West Midlands SIA is supplementary to the Midlands Engine Science and Innovation Audit published last year as part of the first wave of Government-backed SIAs, which SQW also developed. SQW has also worked with other consortia across the UK developing SIAs in both the first and second waves, including in Greater Manchester, Sheffield and Lancashire, Leeds, Oxfordshire, the East of England, the North of England and the South of England.
