Local Evaluation of the Sutton Homes of Care Vanguard Years One and Two
Client: NHS Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group
Sutton Homes of Care is one of the Vanguards which developed new models of care for the NHS. SQW evaluated Homes of Care in partnership with the Social Institute for Excellence in 2016/17 and was asked to evaluate the final year of the Vanguard in 2017/18.
The Sutton model was based on around 20 interventions which encompass integrated care, care staff education and development and quality assurance and safety. The evaluation assessed evidence of the outcomes and impact of these interventions, whilst providing advice and support to the Vanguard evaluation lead.
The evaluation involved working with the client to establish a theory of change and logic models for the interventions, agreeing the research approach and building capacity to identify and collect metrics among local partners. The research involved gathering outcome data from carers and families through focus groups and an online and paper survey, an online and paper staff survey, discussion groups with care home managers, consultations with strategic stakeholders and staff from partner organisations, and collecting secondary and economic data.
The findings were used to guide future activities in Sutton as well as feeding in to national learning about support to care homes.
