Evaluation of the Museums and Schools programme

Client: Arts Council England

Museums provide opportunities for young people to encounter collections that inspire, intrigue and enage them.  The DfE funded an Arts Council England programme; ‘Museums and Schools’ to encourage partnership working between regional and national museums, and local school teachers and pupils.

The SQW evaluation of this progamme reported how the programme expanded over the years, reaching a total of 431,283 pupil visits. The programme offered a varied menu of opportunities, linked to the national curriculum, that achieved positive feedback from teachers, young people and parents.  It also helped teachers to reflect on their teaching practice and build their own knowledge. Participating museums were also increasingly active in their localities as part of local networks of cultural organisations and education providers.

The report was launched by Darren Henley and can be found here.
