Sci-Tech Daresbury Campus Impact Study

Client: Science and Technology Facilities Council

Sci-Tech Daresbury, based in the Liverpool City Region, is one of two national science and innovation campuses in England. The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) commissioned SQW to undertake a robust impact assessment of the different elements of the campus offer and to explore options for applying the methodology at Harwell, Oxford.

The impact assessment required SQW to undertake an initial scoping phase to design and develop a methodological framework to gather robust evidence on economic and wider impacts. Key partners were consulted in this phase including business partners, academics and central government. A significant period of fieldwork was conducted to collect and analyse the data to calculate the impact of the campus, including the development of detailed case studies. The final phase considered the wider application of the framework to other locations.

SQW reported its findings in 2017, incorporating good practice from other science and innovation campuses, and offering recommendations designed to support the future development of Sci-Tech Daresbury.
