Our work in this broad area covers the processes of business formation and growth, and the contribution of innovation to economic prosperity and to society more widely. It focuses on how enterprise and the application of knowledge can be leveraged by places, businesses, sectors and clusters to help build high-performance and specialised economies.
We bring knowledge and understanding of the operation of innovation in its different forms and at various spatial scales. We cover physical infrastructures that provide platforms for innovation (broadband, science parks, innovation centres etc.), knowledge exchange and commercialisation initiatives that encourage innovation activity, and the role of demand side policies such as public procurement, regulation and user engagement.
We also have expertise across the broader enterprise and business development arena, including the role of various types of information and advice that support entrepreneurs and firms in their different stages of development, internationalisation to support trade and investment, and how different financial instruments can assist with start-up, growth and innovation.
