Evaluation Support to Camfed for the Girls Education Challenge, Innovation Window: Zambia

In 2012, the Department for International Development (DFID) launched the £355 million Girls' Education Challenge Fund (GEC) that was designed to help girls from some of the world's poorest countries improve their lives through education.
The Innovation Window (IW) was one of three funding windows. The other windows were the Step Change Window (SCW) and the Strategic Partnerships Window (SPW). Nineteen projects were awarded funding of up to £2 million per project through the GEC Innovation Window (IW), aimed at testing and piloting new approaches to enable marginalised girls to achieve education outcomes that improve their life chances. This sought to deliver holistic approaches to address multiple barriers to girls' education at the level of the individual, household, community, and school.
Camfed Zambia received funding from the DFID under the GEC Fund. This funding was used to introduce Colombia's Fundacion Escuela Nueva's (FEN) model of education support to Zambia. SQW was commissioned by Camfed Zambia to conduct a value for money assessment of the interventions and provide advice on both the development of a marginality index and the framework for conducting a predictive analysis of the Zambian Grade 5 Assessment results in relation to the national Grade 7 exam scores.
