SEND FE Workforce Development Programme - Needs Analysis

The UK Government's vision for children with special educational needs and disabilities is the same as for all children and young people – that they achieve well in their early years, at school and in college, and lead happy and fulfilled lives. Delivery of this vision requires changes in practice amongst a wide range of professions as articulated in the SEND Code of Practice. DfE have commissioned the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) to support the FE workforce to help effect this change.

SQW is evaluating part of the ETF's workforce development programme which is supporting further education (FE) leaders, teachers, learning support staff and careers guidance professionals to build the Code of Practice into their professional practice. Our research will build on our Year 1 evaluation of the same programme in 2016/17.

SQW have refreshed last year's needs analysis and evaluation framework and will be analysing programme management and learner outcomes data, developing college and independent training provider case studies, and assessing the programme's impact on knowledge and practice amongst the wider FE workforce. Our evaluation informed the development of programmes by delivery partners AELP, PublicCo, ACER, Natspec and LEO Learning and will be working with them to build the evidence base.
