Evaluation support for interventions relating to employability

The Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO) was set up in 2019. It is an independent hub for higher education professionals to access research, toolkits and evaluation guidance to eliminate equality gaps. TASO is also an affiliate What Works Centre, and part of the UK Government’s What Works Movement. This means that it is committed to the generation, synthesis and dissemination of high-quality evidence about effective practice in widening participation and student outcomes.

In February 2023 TASO announced its partnership with two independent evaluators – SQW and the University of Cambridge – and four higher education providers to build the evidence base for what works in reducing equality gaps for disabled students in higher education and improving employment and employability outcomes for students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds.

SQW has been commissioned to act as the independent evaluator for the University of Brighton and the University of Exeter. We are supporting the universities to develop theories of change and evaluation plans for their interventions relating to employability. We are exploring how type 3 evaluation methods might be used to assess the impact of the interventions in the longer term.

The findings will be published in Summer 2023.
