Impact Assessment of Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden

Client: Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden are currently the largest film studios in the UK, and the only ones to be owned by one of the film industry's 'majors'. The site is also home to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, which has quickly become one of the country's leading paid-for visitor attractions. (The Harry Potter films were made at Leavesden.) Between them, the two facilities make a very substantial contribution to the British economy, and to Hertfordshire's economy in particular.

Both film and tourism are fast-changing sectors, and Warner Bros. has ambitious plans to ensure the two facilities remain world-class. SQW was asked to prepare an impact analysis to support the related planning application. It considered both the likely economic benefits that would flow from an expansion of Leavesden and the contribution Warner Bros. makes to the social and community life of the local area.

The findings of our work are reflected in this article in The Guardian:
