Wentworth Woodhouse Green Book Appraisal

Client: Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust and The National Trust

Wentworth Woodhouse is a large Grade 1 listed country house in South Yorkshire, which without investment was at risk of being lost to the nation. Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust was formed in 2014 to deliver a sustainable future for the building, and approached The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) with a request for funding to support the repair, restoration, refurbishment and transformation of the house. The mix of uses envisaged for the house and outbuildings included a visitor attraction, events and weddings, business space and residential accommodation.

SQW was commissioned by Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust to undertake a five case appraisal model of the proposed public investment. The work involved assessing the commercial and financial feasibility of the proposed scheme, and developing a long list of options which were assessed and then five shortlisted options modelled to measure the potential qualitative and quantitative impacts of the investment.
