Scottish Development International - Internationalisation and Inward Investment Case Studies
Client: Scottish Enterprise
In 2009, on behalf of Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Government, SQW undertook an evaluation of Scottish Development International (SDI) and their work in supporting Scottish firms to export, and in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).
Following on from this work, we were subsequently re-commissioned to undertake additional research through detailed case studies with inward investors and firms supported to internationalise.
The case studies sought to identify the impact of SDI support on business performance, but also to investigate the range of wider spill-over benefits that can occur, including effects on supply chains, technology transfer, participation in networks and links with academic institutions. The work provided examples of how inward investment and exporting contributes to a much wider set of benefits than simply the direct number of jobs created.
