Client: Greater London Authority

In July 2013, SQW working with the Centre for Enterprise and Economic Development Research (CEEDR) at Middlesex University were commissioned by the Greater London Authority (GLA) to undertake research on SME finance in London.

The aim of the study was to review current supply and demand for different types of finance and then identify the size, scale and type of funding gaps. The study considered whether there was evidence to justify a new publicly-backed finance initiative for SMEs in London.

The study's Final Report was published by the GLA in November 2013. The Report identified a number of areas of finance gaps and provided recommendations to the GLA on potential areas of intervention. The research is now being used by the GLA and partners to inform the use of £25m of Growing Places Fund money to support SME finance.
