Adapting evaluation design in a long term study: a case of enterprise support in the UK

SQW Directors, Jonathan Cook and Joe Duggett, presented lessons from our long-term evaluation of the Start-Up Loans programme at the UK Evaluation Society conference. Presenting alongside the British Business Bank's Director of Economics, Matt Adey, they focussed on how the evaluation design adapted to a changing programme and policy context, and implementation challenges of the research.

As a result of adapting the study, the evaluation was able to provide new insights into how the characteristics of beneficiaries had changed over time, and the implications this had for decisions on where the programme should target its efforts in the future.
