CYP_10_compressed.jpgInternational Review of Participation, Attendance and Retention in Education

Client: National Educational Welfare Board, Republic of Ireland

The National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) in the Republic of Ireland commissioned SQW, supported by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) to carry out a literature review, research and policy synthesis to inform the development of policies and programmes to promote school attendance and participation in Ireland.

The review was designed to inform NEWB in its aim of creating a policy environment in which schools, boards of management and families would be able to implement supportive strategies and practices.  The review used a range of processes, including meta-synthesis, to identify and classify effective, promising and ineffective interventions.  Based in an analysis of the national and international policy and legislative framework, the study provided a full set of conclusions and recommendations.
