Location: Manchester

Qualifications: PGCE in Secondary Geography (Liverpool Hope University), BA Geography (University of Liverpool)

I joined SQW in 2017 after completing three years of teaching secondary education, where I explored my interest in social and economic geography through the national curriculum. Prior to this, I studied for my undergraduate degree in Geography which included modules in globalisation and geopolitics, population, sustainability, social and cultural geographies, and planning. I was attracted to SQW because of the opportunity to further develop my interests in these social and economic areas, given the company’s broad areas of expertise.

Being a Research Consultant at SQW has allowed me to develop my skills across a variety of technical areas, and extend my knowledge and understanding of a range of topics. I have already worked on several high profile projects, including our evaluation of a Further Education SEND workforce development programme and our evaluation of a cross-university innovation programme for SMEs. Working on these projects has enabled me to improve my technical skills in analysing data, writing literature reviews and interviewing, and has given me the opportunity to meet and work for high profile clients such as MHCLG and the Welsh Government.

As part of the Research Consultant Development Programme, I am supported by a mentor, who monitors and assists my progress. I have been trained in ArcGIS Pro, Excel and SmartSurvey, all of which I have used in project work. I have also visited the other SQW offices in London and Edinburgh, which has provided a valuable opportunity to meet other colleagues, and learn alongside both junior and senior members of the company.
