Consultants and Research Consultants London and Edinburgh office positions

Salary: c. £22,000 - £30,000+ per annum (depending on experience) plus benefits

Start date: September - October 2017  

Due to continued growth SQW is looking to recruit bright and motivated Consultants and Research Consultants to be based in London or Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading economic and social development consultancies.  We work across four main policy areas:

  • Spatial and local economic development
  • Innovation, enterprise and business growth
  • Education, children and young people
  • Health and social care.

Our work includes developing strategies and actions plans, economic impact assessments and the evaluation of a wide range of government programmes.  Recent examples include:

  • Support to develop a number of Science and Innovation Audits
  • The evaluation of the investment funds of 11 City Deals across the UK
  • Strategic evaluation of Scottish Enterprise’s international activities
  • Evaluations of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, the Satellite Applications Catapult and Digital Catapult
  • Care Homes and Urgent and Emergency Care Vanguards evaluations
  • The national evaluation of the Integrated Personal Commissioning programme
  • A meta-evaluation of the London Schools Excellence Fund
  • Research into the learner journey for the Scottish Government.

Consultants and Research Consultants

SQW Consultants and Research Consultants typically work on a variety of projects covering different economic and social policy issues. A typical assignment may include the design and analysis of surveys, telephone and field interviewing, analysis and interpretation of findings, desk-based review of secondary data and documentation, report writing, as well as contributing to discussions and presentations during client meetings. Consultants also make an important contribution to the firm’s work winning and business development activities. Consultants should have experience in a relevant consultancy or research/policy environment that is aligned to at least one of SQW’s four core areas of work.

Research Consultant applicants should have a minimum of a 2.1 first degree in a discipline such as economics, politics, geography or science, and preferably also have a Masters in a relevant discipline.

Both roles require strong analytical, written and communication skills, sound IT skills, and abilities to work collaboratively and manage your time effectively.
